Vic: 1,200 Victorian nursing homes receive fire safety upgrade
MELBOURNE, April 25 AAP - More than 1,200 Victorian nursing homes and residential carefacilities have received fire safety upgrades, the state government said today.
The state's Department of Human Services has spent $141 million introducing a FireRisk Management Strategy.
The department's Director of Capital Management, Barry Paice, said part of the fiveyear program would ensure government facilities were fitted with regulation sprinklersystems.
He said installation of the sprinkler systems in rural nursing homes at the Kyneton,Yarram and Yea hospitals would be completed by June.
"All facilities where the sprinkler systems are not yet complete have smoke alarmsand fire safety systems to ensure the safety of residents and staff," Mr Paice said ina statement.
